How to Earn Loot Box Credits
Tesla’s new Referral Program lets you earn reward credits in your app’s Loot Box. You can collect credits in two ways:
- Refer a friend (earn Referral Credits)
- Purchase other qualifying products (earn Loyalty Credits)
Regardless of how you collect them, all credits hold equal value and show as a single balance in your Loot Box.
Are you a Tesla owner? Here’s how to start earning credits now:
1. Refer a Friend
When a friend or family member is ready to purchase a Tesla vehicle or qualifying product, share your referral link with them, directly from your Loot Box. You and your friend will both earn rewards.
To refer a friend:
- Open your Tesla app and go to your Loot Box (loot box icon in upper right corner)
- Tap ‘Get Started’
- Tap ‘Refer Now’
- From your list of contacts, select the friend you’d like to refer and send the referral message. You can also tap the ‘share’ icon in the upper-right corner to send your referral link.
- After your friend places an order, credits will appear as ‘pending’ in your Loot Box until the Grant Date.
2. Earn Loyalty Credits
Are you a current Tesla owner? You can automatically earn Loyalty Credits when you purchase additional qualifying Tesla products using your same Tesla Account. Loyalty Credits are automatically granted — there is no referral code or link needed.
To earn Loyalty Credits:
- Open your Tesla app and go to your Loot Box
- Tap ‘Get Started’
- Tap ‘Order a New Tesla Product’
- Purchase the Tesla product of your choice using the email associated with your existing Tesla products.
- After you place the order, credits will automatically appear as ‘pending’ in your Loot Box until the Grant Date.
Tesla does state; Should a current owner try to place an order using a referral link, whether it’s their own or a friend’s, they are not eligible for the monetary rewards and special referral perks typically offered to new buyers.
How to Redeem Credits
Visit the Loot Box in the Tesla app to view your credit balance and start shopping.
To shop and redeem credits:
- Open your Tesla app and go to your Loot Box (box icon upper right)
- Tap ‘Redeem’ on the bottom right
- View the available rewards. You’ll see the number of credits needed to claim each reward
- Select your reward
- Tap ‘Redeem’
- Enter your shipping address and review your remaining credit balance.
- Tap ‘Redeem Credits’ to claim your reward.
Explore Your Loot Box
Information about Tesla’s referral program and your reward credits are available in the Loot Box of your Tesla app.
Here’s what’s in your loot box:
- Referral Links. View and share your referral link with friends and family directly from the Loot Box. Go to the Loot Box and select Earn>Refer Now
- Qualifying Tesla Products. View the Tesla products that are available to you on the Credits screen in your Loot Box.
- Shop Loot Box. Explore the awards that are unlocked for you and view the number of credits you need to redeem each one. Shop with the credits you have earned directly in the Loot Box Shop.
- Referral History. Tap Earn>History to view friends you have referred, as well as the status of your referral.
- Credit History. In your Loot Box, tap ‘Balance’ to view your available balance and credit transaction history.
- Expiration Dates. As a referrer, your credits expire 12 months from your friend’s Grant Date (the date your vehicle was delivered or your solar panels were activated)
Remember, if you earn additional credits, the expiration date for all of your credits will be extended by 12 months from the most recent Grant Date. In order to extend the expiration date for all of your credits, the delivery or solar activation date must occur prior to your previous credit expiration date.
If you redeem credits for additional Supercharging miles, the expiration date for all of your Supercharging miles will be extended by 6 months (up to a maximum of 36 months).
What’s a ‘Qualifying Product’?
The qualifying products you can purchase in Tesla’s updated referral program depends on your location. Most people will have the option of purchasing a Tesla Model S, X or Y to earn credits.
Tesla owners in the USA may also have the option of purchasing solar roofs or panels.
How Do I Share My Referral Code?
The only way to share your referral link is through the Tesla app. Here’s how:
- Open your Tesla app and go to your Loot Box (loot box icon in upper right corner)

Do Tesla Reward Credits Expire?
Tesla’s reward credits are active for twelve months after your vehicle is delivered to you, or your solar power system is activated. This is known as the ‘Grant Date’.
If you refer a friend that purchases a Tesla within those 12 months, your reward credits are extended for another 12 months from the new Grant Date.
When you redeem your reward credits for Supercharger miles, you must use those miles within six months from the date you redeemed them.

Terms and Conditions for Tesla Referral Program
These are the key terms and conditions of Tesla’s Loot Box (Referral) Program:
- Credits are calculated according to the terms of the program at the time you ordered your product
- Credits are awarded at the time your product is delivered or activated (Grant Date)
- Credits are subject to change and not cannot be redeemed for cash
- Credits cannot be transferred between accounts or given to other people. If an existing owner attempts to order through a referral link (whether their own or a friend’s), they will not qualify for Buyer Credits, nor will the referrer qualify for Referral Credits. This is because both people are already part of the Tesla community. Instead, the owner automatically earns Loyalty Credits.
- All credit redemptions are final and no returns or exchanges are accepted.
- Credits can only be redeemed for awards in the Loot Box using your Tesla app.
- Credits cannot be used to purchase merchandise or accessories in the Tesla Shop
- Credits cannot be applied to any other Tesla product or service.
